OBKA AGM 2017
Beekeepers from across County Offaly will be swarming to a new series of talks organised by their local association. Offaly Beekeepers Association are especially excited to welcome biologist Mark Winston, author of the award winning book Bee Time: Lessons from the hive, to speak to members and guests on October 26th next. Dr Winston is one of the world’s leading experts on bees and pollination, as well as an internationally recognized researcher, teacher and writer. The talk will be held at Offaly Historical Society building on Bury Quay in Tullamore. The association will also be continuing to host a series of lectures for it's members on beekeeping related topics. These talks are aimed at all levels of experience and are followed by question and answer sessions. Members also get to chat and share their experiences over tea afterwards! The club has enjoyed a successful year with a number of members winning prizes for their honey including chair person, Geraldine Byrne, and apiary manager, John Summerville. A number of members also attended the renowned annual beekeeping summer course in Gormanstown, Co Meath organised by the Federation of Irish Beekeepers Associations. The popular beginners course run by the association will begin again in early 2018. This hands on course is expected to run over a number of weeks and will cover all topics needed to get an aspiring beekeeper up and running. The association will be holding it's AGM on October 10th at 8.30pm at the Offaly Historical Society building. All members are encourage to attend to review the past year and elect a new committee for the coming year. New members are always welcome and can register at any meeting.
